About 500 observers were sent to the presidential elections in the Ukraine on January 17 from Georgia (they were mostly from governmental structures); they had to leave Georgia on January 14. Although it is strange, two residents of Chokhatauri district – chairperson of the ruling party fraction of the municipality board Shota Siradze and deputy district governor Dimitri Koripadze – were among those observers. They were selected from 12-me- list. Their colleagues said in their interviews with us that – maybe they were chosen because of their physical abilities. Officials from Chokhatauri district do not have other explanations why Koripadze and Sirzadze were sent to the Ukraine.

A yellow balloon, a polyethylene bag and 93.299 gram of white powder in it is the fatal substance that is kept as evidence against Bokhonko Oresto, a citizen of the Ukraine. The conclusion of the Ministry of Interior of Georgia states that the white powder was the narcotic substance Methadone. Apparently, the law enforcers withdrew the substance from the anal canal of Bokhonko. The process of the evidence-withdrawal was not attended by a witness. Even the suspect did not witness the process because he fainted from the pain. After he recovered he was shown the bag and it was explained to him that it was taken out of his anal canal.

The personnel of nursery schools will have shorter holidays. The directors of the Tbilisi nursery schools received letters from Tbilisi City Hall Social and Culture Department and the directors understood the letter as information about reduced holidays. However, the officials of the City Hall state they had made mistake while writing the letters and claim that the length of the holiday will be based according to the law.

Exclusive Interview
Personnel changes were carried out in the Election Precincts where, during the Presidential Elections on January 5 2008, the presidential candidate from the ruling party failed to gain a convincing victory by a wide enough margin; those Precinct Election Commissions were also blamed for having rigged the election results. PEC members were unable to stand up to the heat of district governors, heads of police departments and prosecutors. Consequently they had no choice but to submit their letters of resignation. In addition, the chairperson of the CEC fired commission members who did not obey what was otherwise an  illegal demand.

Former employee of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs exposes high-ranking officials of the Special Operative Department (SOD) for drug-dealing.

“I will cut your head off; then I will put it in the bag and send to your family…unless you stop your activities, we will kill you; do you know who are you opposing? You know that it is not problem for us to kill you. We will put you in the car-boot and animals will eat your body. Your relatives will not see your dead body,” the author of this article was threatened with these words from the phone-number 899 61 62 78 at 2:00 AM on February 3. Before that, three unidentified people chased him after leaving the office. One of them was armed. The journalist went back to the office to avoid the danger. He did not call the police because he did not hope they would help him.

Citizen Valentine Onishenko addressed the Kutaisi office of the Human Rights Centre. Ever since her daughter’s death, over a year ago, she has been trying to get her little granddaughter Mariam back. Her godmother’s mother, Elene Tukvadze, took the child away on the day of her mother’s funeral.

Fourteen-month-old Amiran Nadiradze, having been abandoned by mother for three months already, is under bed-ridden grandmother's charge. Old woman, tortured with pain and extreme poverty said that she has no way out but to commit suicide.
