„Free Democrats” will appeal in the court against the decision of the City Assembly

Dismissal of the deputy chair of the assembly was one of the issues in the agenda of the Khashuri Municipality Assembly meeting on July 20. A member of the Free Democrats, Giorgi Tkhadiashvili was dismissed from the position of the deputy chair by 18 votes. 9 members of the assembly did not vote for Tskhadiashvili’s dismissal.

Georgian citizens Ucha Nanuashvili and Mikheil Sharashidze appealed to the Constitutional Court of Georgia with the constitutional claim (registration N547) on December 12, 2012. The claim was prepared in Human Rights Center. The Constitutional Court by the first panels’ protocol record N1/1/547 of July 4 2013, received the constitutional claim for an substantial hearing. Meeting of the substantial hearing was held on January 30, 2014, by oral hearing.

In April of 2014 Georgian Parliament adopted National Strategy on Human Rights with the aim to ensure effective realization of human rights with relevant legislative, institutional and practical changes. The document set forth strategic plan to tackle prevalent human rights problems in number of directions, including protection of rights of minorities, combating gender-based violence, safeguarding freedom of religion, ensuring right to peaceful assembly and manifestations, developing mechanism for effective investigation of human rights violations by Georgian law enforcement bodies, and etc...
