Public Defender to Monitor Flat Assignment Process to IDPs

Ministry of Internally Displace People from Occupied Territories, Refugees and Accommodation of Georgia will assign flats to IDPs according to special criteria. Special forms are filled in, where IDPs write all information reflecting their current conditions. Received information is evaluated and points are granted. Families, who will receive highest points, will receive flats in the first stage.
Amendments to the Law Restrict Labor Rights of Public Servants

Argument about amendments to the Law of Georgia on Public Service might continue in the Constitutional Court. According to the February 5, 2014 amendments to the law, which was approved by the Parliament of Georgia together with the Code on Local Self-Governance, every employee of the local self-governmental bodies will work as interim employees.

Second conference of the Georgian Dream was held in noisy environment in Gori. Election of the new chairman of the GD’s regional organization was on the agenda. Delegates gathered in the Gori Drama Theatre to support Nino Zurabishvili on the position. About ten members of the GD protested ongoing polls outside and spoke about internal controversy in the local organization of the Georgian Dream.

They called on the Prosecutor’s Office to start probe into the intimidation and oppression facts on the former prisoner Zaza Azariashvili by law enforcement officers; Azariashvili was victim of torture during imprisonment term.

Luka, 15, took advantage of inattentive shop-assistant and stole a pair of shoes when trying them on. After detention, prosecutor’s office counted the incurred damage that amounted to 25 lari. Based on the prosecutor’s office resolution, Luka became beneficiary of the Diversion and Mediation Program and was freed from criminal liability. In accordance to the program procedures, initially social worker drew up bio-psychological portrait of Luka, which showed that he is advanced pupil, sociable and has high sense of responsibility.

Rector of Telavi State University Avtandil Gelegutashvili assigned case of the student Nodar Ezhishvili to the Ethic Commission for his critical statuses about the university in the social network Facebook. The student was called to the ethic commission session, where he received warning. The Ethic Code imposes some other disciplinary sanctions and dismissal from the university as punishment.

They intend to meet representatives of local partner organizations, public institutions and local missions of international organizations to discuss ongoing programs and future plans of the NHC in Georgia, Armenia and in the South Caucasus Region in general.
