The problem of hate speech in Georgian media – Training by Human Rights Centre

On February 7, Human Rights Center organized one-day training about hate speech in its Gurjaani office. The training was organized in the frame of Human Rights Centre’s project Promoting Freedom of Religion in Georgia. The project is implemented with financial support of the Canadian Embassy in Turkey.
Demarcation of the So-Called Border Renewed in Jariasheni Village

Russian and Ossetian military units renewed demarcation works of the so-called border in the occupied territory. After the barbed wire fence was set in Jariasheni village in Gori district, part of local agricultural plots is now in the occupied territory. As residents of Jariasheni say, the occupation line has moved forwarded 35 meters into the village territory and is stretched along 1 kilometer.

On February 6, pedestrian Nana Giglemiani, 19, was crashed by car in Agmashenebeli Avenue in Kutaisi. As a result of the car-crash the girl died on the place. The witnesses say the driver of the car disappeared. A young man was arrested, who as family members claim, is innocent. They claim the law enforcement officers hide the real perpetrator.

On February 3, substantial hearing into the criminal case against famous Azerbaijan human rights defender Intigam Aliyev started with unexpected decision of the court collegium at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes. As soon as the trial started, the judge ordered to release the human rights defender from the cage without any solicitations from the parties.

During Imedi’s Week talk show on Imedi TV on February 1, 2015, Mr. Goga Khaindrava accused ISFED and its executive director Nino Lomjaria of being involved in political corruption scheme over the past few years. He alleged that Georgian non-governmental organizations were part of the “big corruption scheme” of misspending financial resources allocated for Georgia by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

The number of people at the side entrance to the court discussing particularly grave cases is increasing – citizens, foreign observers and journalists are waiting for the trial of the Azerbaijan human rights defender Rasul Jafarov. Everybody tries to be closest to the door – the trial might be scheduled in such a small courtroom that not everybody will manage to enter. The local journalists say it often happens there.
Garbage Dump in Gurjaani Create Threat of Epidemics

Garbage dump has been created 100 meters away from the settlement in Mukuzani village, Gurjaani district for 4 years already. Velistsikhe village population uses it for years. Cleaning Service of Gurjaani district administration promised Mukuzani village population to arrange a dump in Velistsikhe village, after which the territory of the dump in Mukuzani will be cleaned. The service did not keep its promise and unsanitary in the Mukuzani dump creates threat of epidemic.

Population of Knolevi Village Urge for Help

Knolevi village is the last village within the jurisdiction of Georgian state in Kareli district. After 2008 Russian-Georgian armed conflict the village territory was divided by wire-fence. The plots of locals are now in the occupied territory. The number of people living in the village is reducing every day; the migration intensified since 2008 armed conflict. Several houses were burnt and destroyed in 2008; the war trace is still very vivid in the village.
