Government to Introduce State Program for Abkhaz Language Protection Civil Georgia

The Government of Georgia plans to develop a state program on protection and development of the Abkhaz Language, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at the government session on Friday.
Local self-government elections in Kaspi municipality – incident in Samtavisi village precinct

6 candidates fought for the position of the Kaspi municipality mayor in the local self-government elections. According to the preliminary results of the CEC, mayoral candidate of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia Manuchar Merebashvili won the first round. He gained 64,76% of the voters (10 471 votes). UNM mayoral candidate Aleksandre Shakarashvili took the second place with 16, 31% of votes (2 638 votes). Mayoral candidate of the Alliance of Patriots Mamuka Bekauri received 10, 51% of votes (1700 votes). Dimitry Gorgadze of the European Georgia – 5.8% (938 votes); Natia Bakhtadze of the Republic Party – 2% (323 votes) and Nugzar Gagua of the Traditionalists – 0.61% (98 votes).

Nine mayoral candidates contested in the local self-government elections in Gori. The mayoral candidate of the ruling party Konstantine Tavzarashvili won the elections in the first round. 54,9% of voters – 22 947 persons, who arrived at the polling stations, voted for him. UNM mayoral candidate Revaz Kakhniashvili ranked the second place with 15,19 % - 6 679 votes. Acting governor and the candidate of the Movement for Construction Davit Oniashvili received 4 908 votes, that made up 11, 71% of the voters.

Georgian Dream withdrew its two complaints back from the Dedoplistskaro District Election Commission, where they claimed to re-count votes for the majoritarian elections according to which UNM candidate Avtandil Kharkhelauri defeated the GD’s candidate Giorgi Khumarashvili with 6 votes.
Election results and evaluation of the election process in Kareli municipality

According to the preliminary results of the local self-government elections, candidate of the ruling party and acting municipal governor Zaza Guliashvili was elected to the Mayor of Kareli municipality; he received 10 450 votes that made up 65,97% of the voters, who participated in the elections. UNM mayoral candidate Nikoloz Akhalkatsi ranked the second place with 18.73%. Mayoral candidate of the election bloc Bakradze-Ugulava European Georgia Marlen Lomitashvili gained 8.87% of the votes and took the third place. Zurab Kveladze of the Alliance of Patriots received 5.4% of votes (855 votes). Mayoral candidate of the Election bloc Giorgi Vashadze, Unity for New Georgia Genadi Mamagulashvili received 1.04% of votes (164 votes).

Tradition of torture

Information about the alleged torture and inhuman treatment of Sergo Mamasakhlisi was disseminated on September 27, after the Human Rights Center held press-conference and informed journalists about it. At the same day, Public Defender of Georgia made a statement and called on the Chief Prosecutor to open investigation into alleged inhuman treatment of the accused person.

Genadi Shiolashvili, father of the single mandate MP and former Kakheti regional governor Irakli Shiolashvili purchased a new agricultural plot of 275 000 sq. meters in Shiraki, Dedoplistskaro municipality on September 11, 2017. Nowadays, the MP’s parents own 325 hectares of land. The parents of Shiolashvili have earned the wealth for the past three years after their son first occupied the position of the municipality governor and then regional governor.

Private Demirel College Was Refused to Take Authorization

On September 15, Private Demirel College will not renew school year. The college stopped 25-years-long education activities based on the decision of the Authorization Council for General Educational Institutions. On August 29, 2017 the Council refused the Private Demirel College to get authorization. As their conclusion reads, the Council made decision considering the legal violations they discovered in the educational institution. At the same time, in accordance to the decision, all three standards necessary for the authorization (educational programs, material resource and human resource) were violated.
