Aid Apportioned for the Ministry with the Budget of 800 Million GEL

The tradition continued in 2012 and all district administrations in the Shida Kartli region allocated significant funds for the local offices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Gori district administration was leader in funding, as the district with largest budget. 157 000 GEL was transferred to Vano Merabishvili’s institution from the sum collected by Gori resident tax-payers.

The Civil Registry Agency of the Ministry of Justice said on April 4, that Ivanishvili was not eligible to obtain Georgian citizenship through naturalization process, which he was requesting since January 5; the agency said, Ivanishvili, as a French national, should instead seek regaining his Georgian passport through dual-citizenship process.
Jehovah Witnesses Face Problems Because of Obligatory Military Service

Jehovah witnesses Omar Aznaurashvili and Bondo Javakhishvili faced problems when military commissariat at the Isani –Samgori district administration recruited them to obligatory military service. Aznaurashvili and Javakhishvili are recruits but the Georgian law discharges them from obligatory military service due to their religious faith. Despite that, the Isani-Samgori district administration’s military commissariat has summoned them to serve in the armed forces.

The report reviews legislative changes adopted throughout the year, some of which violate international standards, impose unreasonably strict sanctions, and include vague terminology the interpretation of which could infringe on the rights of Georgian citizens.
