Human Rights Center to Observe 2014 Local Self-Government Elections
On June 15th of 2014 Human Rights Center will observe local self-governmental elections in the Kakheti region in the areas mostly settled by ethnic minorities as well as near conflict areas in Sachkhere municipality, Imereti region. The project is financially supported by Open Society – Georgia Foundation.

Observers do not have possibility to properly observe polling process in the villages of ethnic Azerbaijan citizens
Nestan Londaridze, observer from Human Rights Center, reports that they cannot implement duties properly in the villages of Keshalo, Muganlo, Lambalo and Tulari with ethnic Azerbaijan inhabitants, as commission members intercommunicate only in Azerbaijan language.

Georgian Citizens Living in Occupied Territory Can Freely Participate in Local Elections
Residents of the occupied territory, on the ABL with South Ossetia, can travel to the Georgian controlled territory and participate in the elections without any obstacles. Human Rights Center’s observers reported about it, who monitor ongoing election process in the border-line villages of Perevi, Jria, Tskhomareti, Chala and Speti in Sachkhere district.

Over 1500 Voters Registered in a Precinct in Sagarejo District
Observer of the Human Rights Center reports that 1612 voters are registered in the polling station # 45 in Lambalo village, Sagarejo district.

Human Rights Center observed local elections with 28 observers in the villages of ethnic minorities in Kakheti region and in the villages of Sachkhere district, Imereti region close to conflict areas.

Georgian Dream gives Medea Vasadze several days to make decision
Adjara Supreme Council MP from Georgian Dream Medea Vasadze must within one week decide how to act due to the phone call made to TV-Channel 25 journalist Jaba Ananidze.  Majority member Gia Masalkin says that the majority has given Medea Vasadze a choice: she must either apologize or leave the post of the Human Rights Committee.  In case if Vasadze will not take any of the decisions proposed, majority will discuss her issue again.

On May 31st of 2014 Human Rights Center was registered as a local observer organization for the local self-governmental elections of June 15th of 2014 by the decree of Central Election Commission of Georgia.

Pre-Election Protest of Traders in Gori

Traders continued protest in Gori before elections too. Part of them took radical measures and broke into the territory of old market in Guramishvili square. “We will vote for the candidate, who will restore old market,” the traders claimed.

District Election Commissions finished registration of the candidates for district governors’ positions. Most candidates throughout Kakheti region were registered in Sagarejo district.

Batumi City Hall Warned Political Parties
Supervision service at the Batumi City Hall sent warning letters to the political parties participating in the upcoming local self-governmental elections about their possible fining. Political parties have two days to remove election posters from the prohibited areas in Batumi.

Two employees dismissed from Correctional facility, Minister keeps his position
The Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Sozar Subari states that two correctional facility employees have been dismissed. As Subari told reporters after the government session, employee of correctional department Giorgi Kavlashvili and the Batumi prison director were dismissed.

GYLA - Number of Ungrounded Judgments Reduced in Courts
Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association presented report to the representatives of nongovernmental and media organizations in the Gori Civic Engagement Center. The report presents findings from the trial monitoring of criminal cases. The organization monitored City and Appeal Courts in Tbilisi and Kutaisi.

27 Members of the Georgian Dream’s Akhmeta Organization Left Political Party in Protest
27 members of the Georgian Dream’s Akhmeta office left the political party in protest. They said the party’s election list was reason of their decision, where acting district governor Beka Baidauri is still candidate for the district governor’s position and Mamuka Kholegashvili is first number of the party’s election list.

Who will fight for the position of Gori Mayor?
At the approaching local self-governmental elections, number of candidates for the position of the Gori Mayor is increasing. Georgian Dream’s candidate is Zurab Jirkvelishvili; United National Movemnet nominated Archil Sabiashvili for the position; election bloc Burjanadze – United Opposition nominated lawyer Mamuka Nozadze; Irakli Okruashvili-Georgian Party nominated Kakhaber Ergemlidze and Tamaz Makashvili will join the poll from the Unity Hall.

Opposition Blames Shida Kartli Regional Governor in the Misuse of Administrative Resources

Election Bloc Non-Parliamentary Opposition was established after unification of the political parties New Rights and Free Georgia. Chairman of the bloc’s regional organization Ioseb Bortsvadze blamed the Shida Kartli regional governor in the misuse of administrative resources.
