Part of Dedoplistkaro Lands Might be Left in Azerbaijan

Kakliskure, the natural peninsula  statue  in the Dedoplistkaro district is onin the edge of catastrophe. The river might alterchange the connecting landriver-bed which will result in leaving 180 hectares of land in Azerbaijanian territory.
 

Kakliskure is also called also as Jumaskure. The 180 hectare peninsula is connected to mainland by an isthmus (Meandre) that is approximately the ground with 6 to -7 meters wide.  land (Meandre). The peninsulaIt is surrounded by the river Alazani and slowly .w Waves are erodingtaking land from both sides of Meandre. from both sides.

Alazani is a trans-border river and, border demarcation here needs a special attitude. If the rivcer breaks this small lendconnecting land straight ahead, almost all 180 hectares of land will be left out of the border.  Although, it’s  noteworthyit’s noteworthy as well, that the river is slowly taking a takes quite big portionlarge portion of land from theis peninsula too. and makes it smaller and smaller.

In coming yearsDuring years  theso called peninsula might soon disappear. This beautiful place was given the status of a natural reservestatue because the nature here has been relatively uninterrupted.is reserved with its initial face. In addition, theo grove forest (which is rare already) contains a, here you can find special wild nuts’ endemic species. It also is in the touristic route of the Vashlovani forest reserve. Here one can findis pedestrian routes, river boats, places for picnic and cottages for tourists while . Llocals are planning to offer eco-food to tourists and develop their own small businessbusinesses.

Ana Benashvili, Dedoplistskaro municipality PR manager, said : “We managed to conduct interim measures for strengthening the river-bed couple of years ago, which prevented the threats temporarily, but now the problem has surfacedappeared again. We need Bank-protection measures to secure this area once moreare needed to conduct again. Local government is interested into solvinge the problem  and has applied to the higher-upsupper instances to allocate money for a projectthe bank-protection. However, we do not know if, althou how much consideration this application will be given.gh we do not know if this application will be satisfied.”

The main specialist of the isthmus bank-protection department of the environmental agency, Rusudan Sturua, states that the locationplace has been studied and pre-project planning has been conducted as well.  The main challenge now is addressing a Although the current budget does not look likely to locate money for the preservation of the land.
