We Mixed Up the Color of the Waistcoat and Detained Wrong Person’

November 26, 2007

Murman Khamashuridze, judge at the Batumi Civil Court, discharged Merab Gogoberdize, deputy Chairman of the Republic Party’s youth branch, from the accusation on hooliganism.

The basis for the above-mentioned decision became the testimonies of the law enforcers who took part in his detention. Gogoberidze stated that the employee of the second subdivision of the police department stated at the trial that Gogoberidze was detained by mistake. “We mixed up the color of his waistcoat and detained the wrong person,” said the policeman.

Although the administrative offence was discussed at an open trial, law enforcers did not allow people to attend the court hearing on Gogoberidze’s case.

Gogoberidze was arrested for minor hooliganism in front of the Batumi University.
