Giorgi Targamadze Stated Popular Journalists Made Mistake by Leaving TV Company “Imedi”

November 27, 2007

Giorgi Targamadze, director of Public-Political Programs on TV Company “Imedi”, stated that the popular TV presenters Eka Khoferia and Inga Grigolia made a mistake by leaving the company.

“I am fully aware of the suppression the journalists endured after and before November 7. Many letters have been prepared about the suppression the journalists of the “Imedi TV” had to endure during a long time. As it has become evident despite long experience of working in similar conditions my colleagues could not resist the recent pressure,” said Targamadze in his interview to the weekly newspaper “Kviris Palitra”.

Last week Khoferia announced about her resignation from TV journalistic; Grigolia too decided to go on with her professional activities in the independent studio “TBC TV”.

“I am a journalist and I decided to find a job at an independent studio because neither side will ever call me a distorted and biased journalist and will never boycott me,” said Grigolia in her interview with the newspaper “Mteli Kvira”.

Targamadze cannot understand how Grigolia will manage to “maintain the independent editorial policy because for the last four years, as a result of the current politics, all national broadcasters are controlled by the government.”
