100 Prisoners To Be Released From Batumi Jail

December 12, 2007

The recently announced amnesty act will include the release of 100 prisoners in Batumi's jail and the cancellation of probation for 412 more.

Batumi jail #3 is intended to house only 250 prisoners, but the number serving time there is far larger than the above mentioned figure.

All penitentiary departments have finished the process of sending their prisoners list to the courts and the courts have already begun discussing cases.

President Mikheil Saakashvili's initiative aims to release 3,000 prisoners by New Year.
