Tbilisi Demands Reaction on Physical Assault of Journalists

December 14, 2007
Davit Bakradze, Georgian State Ministry for Conflict Settlement, demands the commanders of the Russian Peace-keeping Forces, dislocated in Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone, to punish those military officers who physically assaulted journalists of the TV Company “Mze” and destroyed their techniques.

Today, Davit Bakradze stated at the briefing that Georgian side categorically condemns the fact and demands immediate reaction on the incident. “I want to recall the incident that occurred several months ago when Russian peace-makers dared to kidnap Georgian journalists. As far as you are informed those soldiers were arrested and serve their terms in Georgian prison. I hope the commanders of the Russian peace-keepers will soon investigate this incident too,” said Davit Barkadze.

Russian peace-makers physically assaulted journalists from the TV Company “Mze” today near the bridge of the River Enguri. The incident happened after journalists tried to shoot the booklets distributed into the conflict zone with the slogan “We Will Return.”
