February 26, 2008

The family of the late Badri Patarkatsishvili, a former businessperson, who died suddenly from a heart attack, will settle issues related to the future of TV Company “Imedi” independently. The family provided this statement about the TV Station which was later published by civil.ge.

“First of all, the family will continue the charity activities of Badri Patarkatsishvili and will decide the fate of the TV-Radio Company “Imedi” on its own.  The TV station and the charity were two projects that were the most important in Badri’s life,” reads the statement.

Nana Patarkatsishvili, the sister of the late businessman, said in her interview with “The Whole Week” that Ina Gudavadze, the wife of Patarkatsishvili, will run the TV Company “Imedi”. She also reported that the family is not going to sell the company.

After the death of Patarkatsishvili close people stated that Patarkatsishvili intended to sell the “Imedi TV” to News Corp” and was leading negotiations for the purpose. The TV Station was closed down in December of 2007.

Bidzina Baratashvili, director-general of the TV Company, said in his interview with the newspaper “Resonance” that he expected that the TV Station will renew its broadcasting in March of 2008. He added that the license of the company expires in February as such the board of the TV Station now intends to appeal the National Commission for Communications to prolong the license automatically.
