April 18, 2008

The GYLA observed that Zaza Gorozia, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Governor, Levan Bezhashvili, Kakheti Regional Governor and Ramaz Nokoleishvili, Guria Regional Governor take part in the pre-election campaign of the majority deputies from the National Movement illegally. Public officials introduced the majority deputies to the society that contradicts the law.

Giorgi Chkheidze, the chairperson of the GYLA stated that similar activities of the public officials contradicted the Georgian General Administrative Code, Article 5 according to which public officials from central or local self-governments shall not take in the pre-election campaign. “We consider that the regional governors took active parts in the pre-election campaign; they introduced the majority deputies to the society and appealed to support them,” said Chkheidze at the briefing today.
