Member of the National Movement Hopes to Shut-down Newspaper

May 2, 2008

Marina Utiashvili, member of the United National Movement, who is also a member of the Gurjaani Public School, initiated to close down the regional newspaper “Imedi”.

The representative of the leading party got anxious about the letter published in the newspaper “Imedi” short time ago. The letter was about illegal reduction of the teachers from public schools under the involvement of the local organization of the leading political party.

“I serve my country, my president and I bring up future generation for my country. I have an initiative to establish censureship in order to prevent oppositionist members to speak openly in the newspaper “Imedi”. Actually, the newspaper which is permanently looking for negative information must be closed down. I think this problem should not exist,” said Marina Utiashvili.

Representatives of the Kakheti regional organization of the United National Movement do not comment on the statement made by their colleague.

The newspaper “Imedi” is weekly, independent, regional edition in Kakheti region. It was founded in 2003.
