May 13, 2008

The initiative group is made up of journalists from the Cornwall based Atlantic FM radio station, the British Press Association and the BBC, as well as aspiring student journalists.

The interest of future journalists and film-makers in observing Georgian elections demonstrates how important is the role of observers in guaranteeing fair and fair elections and for the promotion of human rights during the election process.

Besides, there will be accompanying PMMG observers during the upcoming Parliamentary Elections that is scheduled for 21st May 2008, and these journalists will be visiting media centres set up by the PMMG organization in Kvemo Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kakheti and Shida kartli regions. The visiting journalist will have the opportunity to see first hand how the promotion of the level of civic awareness actually  exist among national minorities and what is the level of access to information that is provided to citizens in protecting their equal rights during the election process.

PMMG will have field 300 election observers within the framework of the project “Equal opportunities for fair elections” and they will be able to observe nearly 70% of the voters among ethnic minorities in the above-mentioned regions.
