Young Opposition Members Protest at Presidential Residence

May 13, 2008

Today, in Tbilisi in front of the official residence of the Georgian in the Avlabari district, members of the Youth Movement of the United Opposition protested. Their activity was organized under the banner of “7 Grave Mistakes”, which reflects the violent crackdown on Georgians who protested against the rigged presidential elections.

The members of the protest action explain that there were 7 serious mistakes made by this current government: murders, deprivation of property, controlled over court, business terrorized, the murdered of the freedom of speech and that election were held in a free, fair, transparent and objective fashion on November 7, 2007.

Soso Giorgadze, one of the leaders of the Youth Movement asserted that Mikhail Saakashvili started up his bloody work from the exact territory where they were holding protest action. He assumed that this residence would become Saakashvili’s house, as Eduard Shevardnadze’s (former Georgian president) still lives in the presidential residence in Krtanisi, in spite of the fact that he is no longer the Georgian President.

“I can promise you that Saakashvili will not continue living in this residence and that the National Movement will not take over the parliament. Members of the National Movement have committed many other sins. These remain on their conscious, apart from all those that were mentioned during this protest. People can remember all of them, and these sins will be wiped away when the candidate under the number 7 win the election,” stated Soso Giorgadze.
