Lecturers Are Fired from Telavi University

May 14, 2008

Lecturers at the Telavi State University are suppressed on political grounds. As Human Rights Centre was informed several teachers have already written resignation letters as a result of threats and suppression; those lecturers are Archil Jorjadze, Neli Tskitishvili and others.

Students said that they are also oppressed. If they meet and support Fikria Chikhradze, a single mandate candidate of the united opposition in Telavi, administration of the regional organization of the National Movement, Telavi district authority and representatives of the Kakheti regional governor threaten them with firing from the university.

Part of students will hold a demonstration with the slogan “Freedom for University Lecturers and Students” in front of the university building on May 14 at 1:00 PM.
