The Human Rights Centre Left Sagarejo, Lagodekhi and Sighnaghi

21.05.2008
Not long ago, about ten drunk men intruded in upper Lambalo’s 47th district and threw several ballots in the election box. There are 1069 voters on the voter's list at the district (11 in special list). At 12:00 PM only 23 voters had voted, at 1:00 PM - 24. At 2:00 PM people who intruded into the poll district dropped falsified ballots into the ballot box. Several people were severely beaten, some of them are - Sandro Gagniashvili (“Republican Party”), Mamuka Masurashvili(“Labour Party”), and others. Head of commission Masimov was actively involved in the quarrel. Police officers are also beaten.

Video camera of the Human Rights Centre hardly survived destruction. Centre representatives experienced massive suppression. Due to the expected tensions the Human Rights Centre quits election observation in Sagarejo Region to secure safety of its observers. The Human Rights Center canceled observation in the following poll districts – Tulari, Lambalo, Iormughanghlo, Qesalo, Sighnaghi and Lagodekhi, where violence and suppression of observers is happening permanently.
