A Journalist Physically Assaulted

May 23, 2008

On her visit to a precinct Norio District # 22 Nana Pazhava, the Human Rights Center election observer found that a precinct had been shut down and the process of polling suspended before 8 p.m. The observers of the oppositional parties alleged that the ballots had been stuffed into the ballot box in this precinct. An observer from the United Opposition wanted to write a complaint on the fact. Nonetheless, the PEC chairperson denied any attempt of filing a complaint with the observer of the Human Rights Center.
It must be noted that when Nana Pazhava asked Gela Topuria, a DEC member to comment on the fact, he then assaulted the observer and bullied her with the help of the police.
When the observer of our organization tried to take photos, however, Gela Topuria, slapped her in the face. Nana Pazhava was restricted from taking photo as well.
