Union of Blind People Protest at State Chancellery

Today, the Union of the Blind protested in front of the State Chancellery. The blind people demand to increase their allowances and to stop discrimination of the disabled.

“Diabetikon Union” and Union of Disabled People also joined with the protest. Revaz Maisuradze, the chairperson of the Union of the Blind, stated there must be one minimal pension in the country and people cannot be segregated based on various criteria. The state should create equal conditions for all disabled people. If there is one minimal pension, then the blind should be the first to receive that amount.

Later, Davit Lomidze, deputy Minister of the Labor, Healthcare and Social Welfare met the demonstrators. He promised to assist the disabled people and stated that the Ministry with the support of the central government will do was necessary to resolve their problem in the nearest future and that he would organize for them to meet with Lado Gurgenidze, the Georgian prime minister to discuss their concerns.
