Monitoring of Poverty Reduction State Program in Kakheti

June 26, 2008

The Human Rights Center will start monitoring of Poverty Reduction State Program in Kakheti region starting July 1 2008.

Representatives of the Georgian Human Rights Centre explained that the state program is not being implemented transparently and those who actually live under conditions of extreme poverty and needs assistance are unable to receive allowances. In addition, families are deprived from being granted allowances though their living conditions were not improved since their involvement in the program. Agencies of Social Subsidies in districts are not even paying attention to the needs of socially excluded people. Often times their applications for assistance are totally ignored or not considered.

Within the monitoring program, the Human Rights Center will provide applicants with free legal assistance and information service.

Hotline 8 (253) 2 50 70, which will begin working after July 1, 2008.
