Lado Vardzelashvili’s Administration Spreads Disinformation

June 27, 2008

Eka Soitashvili, accountant of Shida Kartli Regional Governor’s Administration denied the information that was shared by the Human Rights Center’s Shida Kartli office.

On June 24 the Human Rights Center provided information about the credit debt of the regional administration. The Protocol of the Chamber of Control, issued on March 25, 2008, stated that the governor’s administration had incurred a debt of 62,600 GEL as of January 1. 16, 000 GEL out of the total sum was arrears for the administration human resources; 5, 000 GEL consists of social taxes and the remaining 45, 500 GEL includes other staff and communal related expenses.
According to the Human Rights Center’s information Lado Vardzelashvili requested the Ministry of Finances to discharge the administration from the incurred debts.

Representatives of the Shida Kartli regional administration state that local budget cannot cover the debt of the previous year and consequently, the Ministry of Finances should allocate that sum of money from the central budget.

“Thus, accusations as if Vardzelashvili, the regional governor, does not intend to pay the debt, are groundless,” stated the officials from the local authority.

Nevertheless, Vardzelashvili did not request the Ministry of Finances in his letter to allocate sums to cover the debts; but he requested to discharge the regional administration from the old debts.
