Human Rights Centre Demands Punishment of District Governor of Sighnagh

July 15, 2008

The Human Rights Centre demands that Zaza Zedelashvili, head of Sighnaghi Municipality and Shorena Kadagishvili, public information officer in Sighnaghi District Board of Administration be held  disciplinary responsible for their actions.

The Center avers that the Sighnaghi Board of Administration does provide public accessible information, even thought the Centre has addressed to the Board on numerous occasions with such requests.  Consequently the Board of Administration has infringed upon the right to access to public information, as prescribed by the Constitution of Georgia and Chapter III of General Administrative Code of Georgia, which deals with freedom of information.

A lawyer of the Human Rights Centre lodged an appeal to the Sighnaghi District Court with the request to subject civil servants to disciplinary responsibility as a result of this blatant violation.
