July 25, 2008

A special site was created on the website www.justice.gov.ge of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia which is dedicated to the protection of the rights of the child prescribed by Hague 1980 “Convention on Civil Aspects of the International Abductions of Children”.

The detailed information on Convention and its usage was prepared by International Public Law Department of the Ministry of Justice. The Department contact details are given on the site as well as the application forms that citizens must fill for executing the rights prescribed by the Convention.

Georgia acceded to the Haaga October 25th, 1980 Convention on Civil Aspects of the International Abduction of the Child on February 14th, 1995 which entered into force on October 1st, 1997.

Georgia took responsibility to cooperate with the competent bodies of the Convention state parties in solving problems such as: discovering the child abduction circumstances, solving the problem peacefully, insuring that the child is returned to his/her parents fast, implementing administrative and court procedures and exchanging information on the Convention targets.

The International Public Law Department of the Ministry of Justice is  the primary governmental body authorized to coordinate the effective implementation of 1980 Convention on Civil Aspects of the International Abduction of the Child and carry out Convention target based activities, such as: provide reference books to judges, bring the national legislature in accordance with the Convention aims and targets, to involve NGOs that work on the protection of the rights of the society and the child in the process of Convention implementation and so on.
