Georgian Nuns Are Demanded to Subordinate to Russian Church

Georgian TV Company Rustavi 2 reported that Russian troops demanded the clergymen from the churches and monasteries in Upper Abkhazia to subordinate Russian Orthodox Church.

The nuns from the monastery located in the village of Azhara in Upper Abkhazia reported to the TV Company Russian soldiers demanded them to move under the jurisdiction of the Russian Church otherwise they have to leave the monasteries.

Medianews inquired about the validity of the information at the Georgian Patriarchate and they confirmed the information. The patriarchate informed the news agency that they cannot withdraw Georgian nuns from the Azhara monastery.
