Young IDP Asks Georgian President to Pardon Older Brother & Free from Prison

September 1, 2008

Mindia Gholijashvili, an underage IDP from the village of Patara Garejvari, Gori District personally asks the President of Georgia to pardon Ivane Gholijashvili, a prisoner and who is his older brother.

Mindia’s mother died during the child birth of her fourth child. The infant died at the same time as the mother. Mindia’s father is physically disabled. The family of Gholijashvili does not know where one of the three Gholijashvili brothers is: Ivane Gholijashvili, 26 is said to have been serving sentence in Kutaisi Prison for stealing a cow a year ago.

Ivane had been taking care of his younger brother before he was arrested. After this Minda started to work physically to support himself. He helped his neighbors in tending apple orchards. Consequently, he received food provisions and apples. He then sold apples to purchase bread.

When the Gori District was bombed Mindia’s relatives from village Kardenakhi, Gurjaani District   sheltered him. The child has broken leg and therefore he needs medical help. Mindia Gholijashvili now asks the president to pardon his elder brother so that he has a person who will take care of him once again.
