Homeless Family Living in Cattle-Shed

September 17, 2008

Makvala Bikashvili, a resident of the village of Mirzaani in Dedoplistskaro district, appeals to the government for some assistance. Bikashvili told how her family has been living in a cattle shed and under the most unbearable of conditions, along with her disabled child for several months already.

Bikashvili reported to the Human Rights Center that her house was damaged during a natural disaster and the walls and ceiling collapsed. The homeless family then applied to the government several times for help but all their efforts proved unsuccessful. However, before the elections, Avtandil Lekashvili, a single mandate candidate for the Dedoplistskaro district promised her to help. Nonetheless, ever since Lekashvili was elected to a single mandate, “constituency” in the newly-seated Georgian parliament, he has never been back in contact with this desperate and socially excluded family.

The Human Rights Center appeals to the Dedoplistkaro district board to provide some immediate assistance to the family from the fund for socially excluded people. Assistance is envisioned from resources that could be allocated from the local budget.
