September 19, 2008

Zina Luashvili, teacher of the Gurjaani Public School # 2 refused to teach Russian language at school in protest. She has already petitioned to the school administration with the same request.

“I was teaching Russian language with love but after the disaster that happened in August in my homeland, the love was changed into hatred. I cannot teach Georgian children the language of our enemy,” stated the teacher.

Zina Luashvili has been teaching Russian language at Gurjaani public school for over thirty years. She has received many awards for her work. Zina Luashvili lives in Noneshvili Street, Gurjaani in the conditions of a socially excluded person. Reportedly, the teacher has some loan at the bank. Although after her decision Zina Luashvili remained without any income, she said the fact did not prevent her from making similar decision.
