Principal of Kabala Public School Threatening School Teachers with a Gun

September 25, 2008

The Human Rights Center received information from an Azeri school of Kabala village, Lagodekhi Municipality that Amit Aliev, interim principal of Kabala Public school has gone so far as to threaten the teachers who protest his activities.

It turned out that several days ago Georgian language classes were abolished in Kabala Public School under Aliev’s order and several teachers protested against this order. They appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Human Rights Center for assistance. The teachers also lodged an appeal in the Kakheti Office of the Prosecutor General and accused Aliev of embezzlement. The teachers state that after having protested against the Aliev, the school principal threatened them in the school building with a gun and said if they did not take the complains back from governmental bodies that they would be forced to leave the village along with the school. Yesterday, Khatuna Gogoberishvili, former Georgian language teacher was prevented from entering the school building under Aliev’s instructions.

Aliev denies the teachers’ accusation and demands that they apologized.
