Kakhetian Businesspersons Are Forced to Buy Grapes

September 30, 2008

Giorgi Ghviniashvili, Kakheti Regional Governor met businesspersons that work in Kakheti region and demanded they bought grapes from local peasants.

The businesspersons, who did not wish to reveal their identity, told the Governor they were not ready to buy grapes. However, the regional governor did not pay attention to their words.

“Military activities have damaged business companies. Besides, we have donated much money to the IDPs and therefore, we have no funds left for such activities. We do not even have vessels for pouring grape juice in it. To cut the long story short, we are not ready to buy grapes. We have told this to the governor. However, he did not pay attention to our words,” stated the businesspersons.

Giorgi Botkoveli, Deputy Kakheti Regional Governor denies the fact of forcing the businesspersons to buy from peasants. “Name me even one businessperson who said that. We have not given such instructions,” stated deputy governor.
