Socially Excluded Person Plans to Hunger-Strike in front of Insurance Company

October 7, 2008

Shalva Paposhvili, a member of a socially excluded family complains about the insurance company “Imedi-L”. Paposhvili reported to the Human Rights Center that he needs an urgent operation on his nose though the insurance company refuses to pay for his operation.

“The diagnosis was concluded by the oto (rhino)laryngologist of Gurjaani district policlinic on September 8. The doctor filled in special form as well and it was submitted to the regional branch of the insurance company. However, the company has not discussed the issue yet and my health condition continues to worsen. I cannot breathe and everyday I need to call for an ambulance,” said Paposhvili.

Employees of the regional branch of the Insurance Company explain that the company is obliged to discuss the emergency need for the operation and provide the assistance within a period of six months.

If the insurance company does not discuss Paposhvili’s case immediately the socially excluded person will start hunger striking in front of the company’s office in Telavi.
