After Russians departed the Gori district, a demining and monitoring group and Georgian police have since entered the now unoccupied villages of Gori district where Russian forces were formerly in control.
Davit Khmiadashvili, Gori district governor, reported to Medianews that the demining process would end in 2-3 days; before that they suggest locals do not yet return to their villages.
The monitoring group that accompanied the Georgian police in the villages will estimate the number of damaged house and evaluate the extent of the inflicted damage. Based on their assessments the state will start to restoring and rehabilitating damaged houses.
Vladimer Vardzelashvili, Shida Kartli regional governor, reported to the Medianews, that after demining activities finish in the villages the IDPs should return to their damaged houses in order to take part in the rehabilitation works of their own houses. The state will reimburse their work as well. Vardzelashvili stated that in doing so local people will have some income at least for some time until the reconstruction work is completed.
