NGOs Demand Kakheti District Governors Explanations

November 12, 2008

Kakheti based NGOs are demanding hard answers from the district governors of Lagodekhi, Sighnaghi, Sagarejo and Gurjaani.

As representatives of the NGOs stated at the meeting today, according to the resolution # 327 of the government, these district administrations received separate funds for various amenities; 124 thousand GEL was sent to Sighnaghi; 201 thousand GEL was sent to Lagodekhi; 500 000 GEL-to Sagarejo and 744 050 GEL to Gurjaani.

NGOs state that almost entire budgets of the district are already spent. In spite of the allocated and disbursed funds, no improvements have been noted in the public goods of the mentioned districts.

Reportedly, yesterday the Human Rights Center appealed to the Kakheti regional prosecutor’s office and requested that an investigation about the expenditure of the funds allocated from the central government in relation to the parliamentary elections May 21 2008 be investigated.  The total amount of the allocated fund amounted to 6,805 200 GEL.
