Recent Poll: 82% of Kakhetians do not know their Governors

Kakheti Information Center carried out a social research survey on November 10 - 14 throughout Kakheti region to assess locals’ current level of knowledge about their local government. Only one question was asked: Do you know who your district governor is?

The survey was conducted in Telavi, Akhmeta, Gurjaani, Kvareli, Lagodekhi, Sighnaghi, Dedoplistskaro and Sagarejo districts, outside of district centers, in suburbs and in several villages. A total of 928 respondents were interviewed.

Of the 114 people interviewed in Telavi, only 25 knew that Zurab Butskhrikidze is the district governor. Out of 97 of those interviewed in Akhmeta, only 12 are aware that Koba Maisuradze is the district governor. In Gurjaani, 165 people were interviewed and only 47 of them knew that Kakha Labuchidze is their governor; 76 people were interviewed in Kvareli and only 6 of them told that Levan Gamsakhurdia is the governor; 27 out of 147 respondents in Lagodekhi knew that the governor is Gia Gozalishvili; 14 out of 129 Sighnaghi residents are aware that their district governor is Nodar Kochlamazashvili. Levan Baghashvili is the governor in Dedoplistskaro district and 13 out of 106 interviewed people know this information. 94 people were interviewed in Sagarejo and only 18 knew that Gia Chalatashvili is the district governor.

In total, 928 people were interviewed in Kakheti region and only 162 of them (17.5%) knew who are their district governors.

Specialists did however state that the uncertainty of the poll results might be assessed as being within 2-3 %.
