Roma People Cannot Take Part in Poverty Reduction State Program

November 27, 2008

Roma residents of the village of Leninovka in Dedoplistskaro district cannot participate in the poverty reduction state program. As the Roma reported to the Human Rights Center, they applied to the district office of the Agency for Social Subsidies but in vain.

Nearly 30 Roma families live in poor conditions in the village of Leninovka. It must be noted that they are Georgian citizens and they all have IDs.

Officials of the agency state that Roma people have not applied to their office with the request to involve the poverty reduction program. But, as Roma state, they are illiterate and could not write applications without help.
