On December 2 police officers from Gurjaani beat Gaga Pitiurishvili, a resident of Gurjaani. Pitiurishvili suffered injuries on his head and forehead.
According to the Human Rights Center, law enforcers were supposed to have interrogated Pitiurishvili as a witness for a thief case. However, he had his freedom illegally restricted during a night and was subjected to physical violence as well.
Soso Martashvili, the head of the Gurjaani Police Department, denied the claims of beating Pitiurishvili. The Human Rights Center appealed to Gurjaani district prosecutor’s office to react to the incident.
