New Rights Protest Telavi Cable Decision Not to Broadcast “Maestro” TV Programs

December 12, 2008
Gela Mtivlishvili, Kakheti

Members of New Rights regional office protested the decision of Telavi Cable TV Company “Gorda” to cease broadcasting of programs of Studio “Maestro” in Kakheti region.

Nika Vardoshvili from New Rights stated they requested Givi Mamukelashvili, the director of the local TV Company, not to cease broadcasting of the program “Profession Journalist” prepared by the studio “Maestro”. According to Vardoshvili the director of the TV Company responded that the company was his property and he could act based on his own decision. “The Cable TV Company is a HQ of the National Movement and under the order of the government they stop broadcasting of those programs where free speech is heard,” said Vardoshvili.

Givi Mamukelashvili does not share comments to the Human Rights Center.

It must be pointed out that despite many requests of the Telavi population the head of the Cable TV Company “Gorda” also refuses to show programs of local TV Company “Tanamgzavri”.
