January 12, 2009

Owners of two shops in the shopping center “Moscow” in Batumi were fined with 500 GEL for not having cash-machines. According to the amendments introduced to the Tax Code of Georgia, people trading in open markets are free from obligation to use cash machines until January 1, 2010.

Marina Gorgiladze, trader: “Officials from Tax Inspection fined me and threatened with extra expenses if I dare to sue them.”

Lawyer of the shopping center states, that fining of traders is illegal. Amiran Tsetskhladze stated traders from open markets are free from obligation to use cash machines. “Our well-arranged counters should not be taken for shops,” said lawyer of the shopping center.

Employees of the shopping center protest the installment of cash machines and threaten with protest demonstrations.
