Russian Occupants Did not Let 300 Inhabitants of Gali District into Gali District

January 12, 2009

Russian occupants did not allow inhabitants of Gali district, who were on their way from Zugdidi to Gali, to cross the Enguri Bridge and enter Gali district.

According to Media Center of Abkhazia, the Gali inhabitants had come to Zugididi district to buy provisions. On the way back to Abkhazia, Russian occupants demanded 500 Rubles from each Gali district inhabitant for crossing the Eguri Bridge.

The Gali district inhabitants were unable to pay the money and Russians did not let them in Abkhazia. Consequently, Gali district inhabitants were forced to return to Zugdidi district. Now they urge observers from European Union to assist them to return to Gali district.
