Tens of Peasants Demand Money from Ltd Kakhetian Traditional Wine-making for the Grapes Handed in Autumn

January 30, 2009

Several dozen of peasants demand money from Ltd Kakhetian Traditional Wine-making for the grapes that were handed over  in autumn 2008 for the production of wine brands.

The peasants say that in accordance to the terms of the contract the wine company was obliged to pay them money by the end of December 2008. However, the peasants have not received their money up to present time. “We go to Kvareli almost every day in hope of receiving our money from the wine company but there is no respond from them.. We have already spent half of the amount we are entitled  in traveling,” said peasants. They have applied to the Human Rights Centre Kakheti office for help.

The Kakheti regional coordinator of the Human Rights Centre said that the HRIDC lawyers will lodge an appeal against Ltd Kakhetian Traditional Wine-making with the demand to pay debt and compensation to the peasants in the near future. The Human Rights Centre will help peasants free of charge.

Aleko Dadiani, the financial manager of Ltd. Kakhetian Traditional Wine-making said that the company visited Kvareli on numerous occasions but were unable to meet with peasants.
