Meter Tellers Charge Subscribers with Extra Money

February 4, 2009

The representatives of energy distribution company Energo-Pro Georgia charge subscribers for their service with extra 2 GEL. The subscribers protest against this.

“It is written 2 GEL with ink on the receipt. We are told that it is the tax for the service of meter tellers. However, we have not received any receipt for the payment of this kind of bill,” say the inhabitants of Akhalsopeli village.

It is noteworthy that there are only communal electricity meters in village of Akhalsopeli. This means that the families do not have their own individual meters. There is only one communal meter for each district of the village and villagers share the electricity bill. Consequently the bill is different from the number of kilowatts they had actually consumed.

The Human Rights Centre applied to Giorgi Surmava, the head of Public Relations Department of Energo-Pro Georgia due to the complaint of the subscribers. Giorgi Surmava demanded to bring the receipt with the inscription of extra 2 GEL. He said he will study the case only after this.
