One More Homeless Family

February 11, 2009
Four-member family of Bezhanidze, with two under-age children, has to live in the street. Representatives of the execution bureau in Khelvachauri district evicted the family from the building of a shop.

Asie Bezhanidze, head of the family, stated that he is a shareholder in the shop and he had been working in the shop since 1968. He moved to the building of the cooperative union since he had to sell his house because of illness of his son.

Bezhanidze holds eight-year lease agreement with the board of the cooperative union that expired in 2008. However, the Ministry of Finances and Economy sold the state property for 15 300 USD at the auction in May of 2007.  Bezhanidze said that he was not informed about the auction.

Khelvachauri municipality board does not intend to assist the evicted family. District governor Teimuraz Dumbadze stated that Bezhanidzes are not registered in Khelvachauri district and consequently, the local authority cannot assist the family. Besides that municipality board cannot find enough sums in the budget to assist the family.
