Personnel of TV Company “Maestro” Protest Statement of MP Givi Targamadze

February 11, 2009

Personnel of the TV Company “Maestro” protest the statement of Givi Targamadze, chairperson of the Security Committee of Georgian Parliament. They claim that similar statements can be considered as threat and oppression.

Mamuka Ghlonti, the director of the TV Company, state that the personnel of “Maestro” categorically protest insulting statements of the governmental officials.

“On February 8, MP Givi Targamadze said that personnel of the TV Company “Maestro” are drug-addicts and blamed them for propaganda of interests of Russia and for the cooperation with special service. He insulted the respondents of the company as well. TV Company “Maestro” protests the insulting statements of the governmental officials and considers the abovementioned statements as oppression, threat and danger from the government. TV Company “Imedi” was raided and then closed after similar statements too. We urge everybody to support us in the name of our colleagues. Let us protect one of those few sources of free expression that exist in Georgia. We should not allow the government to raid and close small TV Company “Maestro”, which does not have even a guard because of short budget,” said Ghlonti.
