Jemal Sajaia, Member of Supreme Council of Abkhazia Continues Protest Demonstration

March 11, 2009

Jemal Sajaia, member of Supreme Council of Abkhazia, continues protest demonstration together with his supporters.

Jemal Sajaia categorically denies the information spread by media-sources as if he stopped the hunger-strike.

Sajaia reported that he still continues the hunger-strike he had started on February 11, 2009 after he was evicted from his residential house in Tskneti; other IDPs from Abkhazia-Elza Chikobava, Boris Gagua, Zurab Kaldani, Lali Omanadze, Nona Meshveliani and veteran of Abkhazian war, a disabled person Aleksandre Kopaliani joined the hunger-striker.

Nugzar Mgaloblishvili, member of Supreme Council of Abkhazia, claimed that reason for illegal eviction of Jemal Sajaia with the support of law enforcers was already estimated. According to him, the illegal eviction is connected with Malkhaz Chachava former vice-mayor of Tbilisi. The house was illegally registered on the daughter-in-law of Chachava who had purchased the house from the mother of MP Merab Samadashvili.

Nugzar Mgaloblishvili explained that since MP Merab Samadashvili failed to seize the house in accordance to the law he used fabricated documents and sold the house of Jemal Sajaia to the family of Malkhaz Chacahva which he had bought from the dead person.

The MP added that Merab Samadashvili evicted the family of Sajaia from the house initially in summer of 2005 with the support of law enforcers. Next time, the family was evicted on February 11, 2009. Jemal Sajaia petitioned to President Saakashvili to restore the justice but nobody ever tried to investigate the problem of the large family and to restore the justice.
