Socially Excluded Pregnant Women Are Demanded to Pay 600 GEL at Gurjaani Maternity House

March 27, 2009

Socially excluded pregnant women are demanded to pay in cash at Gurjaani Maternity House. Relatives of the pregnant women informed the Human Rights Center about this violation.

A certain incident took place today. Although N. M. comes from a socially excluded family and the rating point of the family is just 52 070 in the data base of the Poverty Reduction State Program, the doctors of the maternity house demanded her parents to pay 400 GEL for their services and 200 GEL for other expenses. The parents showed them the registration certificate in the data base of socially excluded families that was issued by the Gurjaani Office of the Agency for Social Subsidies on November 21, 2009; however it did not make a difference.

Personnel of the Gurjaani Maternity House refuse to comment.
