Urgent Appeal of Mamuka Ghlonti, Producer-in-Chief of TV Company “Maestro”

April 1, 2009

“On March 31 at 5:00 pm Mikheil Saakashvili was having dinner at the restaurant “Median”. A group of people arrived there to express their protest. Journalists from the TV Company “Maestro” went there to report on the fact. Bodyguards of Mikheil Saakashvili physically assaulted a journalist and camera-man of “Maestro” together with other participants of the demonstration. The guard seized video-cassettes from journalists where they had recorded how body-guards of the president were beating demonstrators and how the mobile phones of the demonstrators were thrown away in the river. Law enforcers damaged the video-camera of the TV Company “Maestro.

I want to warn Mikheil Saakashvili, who does not avoid physical harassment against journalists too, soon he and his body-guards will get back all those fists our journalists have received from him and his guard. “Maestro” will inform diplomatic corps, non-governmental and internal organizations of journalists.”
