Dachi Tsaguria: I Am not Going to Pay the Fine Imposed by the Court

April 2, 2009

Members of the youth branch of the organizers of April 9 demonstrations consider they were arbitrarily arrested on March 31 and are not going to pay the fines imposed by the court. Young oppositionists state that they will appeal against the court decision regarding bail.

As it is reported, members of the youth branch, Nika Goginashvili, Mamuka Gobechia, Giorgi Oniani and Dachi Tsaguria were arrested during the protest demonstration in front of the restaurant “Meidan” where President Mikheil Saakashvili was having dinner. The demonstration was dedicated to protest his being in a restaurant.

The court fined the detainees because of blocking the road.

Dachi Tsaguria reported to Medianews that the court charged him illegally. He claims that the demonstrators did not block the road.

Tsaguria declared that body guards of the President and chief patrol policemen-Goga Grigalashvili and Giorgi Gegechkori personally beat demonstrators.

“I am not going to pay the fine and we will appeal against the decision both in Georgia and in Strasbourg. This detention is not a first occasion and I have never paid anything; I will do the same now and will not contribute anything to the budget of Mikheil Saakashvili. Every person who beat us will be punished; we will not forgive them,” said Dachi Tsaguria.

For the note: the court fined each detainee with 400 GEL.
