Conservative Party Blames Policemen For Attempting to Threaten the People

April 9, 2009

Conservative Party blames the police for having attempted to threaten the society. Nino Goguadze, a representative of the party, stated at a press-conference today that several members of the Conservative Party received letters from Mikheil Dilimashvili, head of unit N 100 of the Tbilisi Patrol Police Department, in which the policeman warned members of the party against participating in the protest demonstration.

“Nikoloz Kacharava, chairperson of the Vake district office of the Conservative Party, and Giorgi Akhalkatsi, head of the organization center of the party, received letters from Mikheil Dilimashvili which stated that certain extremist groups were going to organize provocations. The policeman states in the letter that people who received the letter should not take part in illegal activities. Letters sent by governmental officials before the peaceful demonstration of April 9 are attempts to threaten people and aim to cause fear and panic in the population,” said Goguadze.

Goguadze stated that the Conservative Party is going to petition to the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia to launch a criminal investigation regarding the fact.

The Conservative Party warns that if Dilimashvili or any other governmental official attempts to send letters to people the people who receive the letters should immediately inform the party.
