One More Journalist Left the “Imedi” TV Company

April 23, 2009

Another journalist, Tea Sichinava left the “Imedi” TV Company. Tea Sichinava was a correspondent for the news program “Kronika”. She says that the reason for her decision was the censorship in the TV Company.

Before that, a journalist for the news programs Diana Trapaidze left, because she could not work under the censorship. “My friend’s and my protest followed the releasing of an incomplete version of the statement of the Patriarch of Georgia by TV Company “Imedi”,” said Tea Sichinava.

On April 8 the day before the rallies planned on April 9, the Patriarch of Georgia called upon the government and the opposition as well as the Georgian Army not to use force against its population. This part of his appeal was not broadcasted by the leading national TV Channels, including “Imedi TV.”

I have not been to the office since April 8. Our management advised me to think over my decision until upcoming Easter and to not make a prompt decision. Moreover I had a chance now to monitor the televised programs as a spectator. Many issues still remain that are unacceptable for me, that‘s why on April 20 I informed the management of the TV company about my decision and on April 22 I wrote an official notification about leaving the job”, said Tea Sichinava.

According to her, there are some other “Imedi TV” journalists who express their protest and do not come to the office. They are Ana Gochashvili, Nini sakvarelidze, Joni Kalandadze, editor of the news program “Kronika” and Tengo Mezurnishvili the producer of the “Kronika”. However, they have not made a final decision about leaving their jobs.
